Voice For Life: Speaking up for those who cannot speak for themselves

Scriptures relevant to Chinese refugees ministry

(These scriptures were included in a pamphlet prepared for the Liberty March in Bakersfield, California, on June 8, 1996. The Liberty March marked three years in jail for the Chinese refugees. Liberty March participants marched 12 miles from the Liberty Bell in downtown Bakersfield to the Lerdo Detention Facility north of Bakersfield.)

"Proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants."
Leviticus 25:10

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
    because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
To release the oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
Luke 4:18-19

"You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use
your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one
another in love."
Galatians 5:13

"For the Lord your God is God of Gods and Lord of lords,
the great, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality
and accepts no bribes. He defends the cause of fatherless
and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and
clothing. And you are to love those who are aliens, for you
yourselves were aliens in Egypt."
Deuteronomy 10:17-19

"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you
who are blessed by my Father, take your inheritance, the
kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.
For ... I was in prison and you came to visit me. Then the
righteous will answer him, 'Lord, ... when did we see you
... in prison and go to visit you?' The King will reply, 'I tell
you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of
these brothers of mine, you did to me.'"
Matthew 25:34-40

"Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow
prisoners, those who are mistreated as if you yourselves
were suffering."
Hebrews 13:3
