NEWS FROM THE FRONT LINE
Yesterday (12/26/00) as we were reaching out at "A Capital Women's
Health Clinic" in Henrico, we were assaulted by a crazed school teacher.
Mary Penner and Caleb (my 11 year old son) were holding signs on both
sides of the drive which told of the dangers women face if they choose
Mahlon Douglas Cannon as their abortionist ( He's killed and maimed many
women in California and had his Medical License revoked in that State).
I was attempting to speak with and give literature to women as they
entered the abortion mill.
Shortly after setting up, a man driving a pickup truck drove onto the
clinic's lawn and proceeded to scream obscenities at us. He said that he
wanted the signs down "NOW" and then proceeded to yank the sign from my
son and cut it up with a knife. He then got back into his truck and sped
away. Getting his licence number, I called 911 and to make a long story
shorter, he was found and we began the process of filing a report. Just
before the Officer was about to leave, the father of the public school
teacher arrived to plead for his son. The police really shook the
teacher up and his father was in tears since the charges were going to be
Destruction of Property and Assault. This would possibly be the end of
the teacher's career since school boards usually don't look kindly at
teachers assaulting 11 year olds with knives.
After the police spoke at length with the assailant and I discussed the
situation with the distraught father I agreed to put off pursuing charges
if the he would immediately reimburse me for the damaged sign and with
the understanding that the paperwork would be on file and I would bring
charges against his son if he showed up in the future. As scared as he
was, I have no doubt that he will keep his distance.
Never a dull day.
"Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of
righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when
men cast insults at you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely,
on account of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is
great, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you." Matthew
5:10-12.
