Abortionist John Biskind of Cleveland was sentenced to five years in prison on May 4, after being found guilty of manslaughter by a Phoenix jury. Biskind was also ordered to pay $12,841.40 in restitution. His former administrative assistant, Carol Stuart-Schadoff was sentenced to four years probation and the same amount of restitution. The jury found her guilty of a lesser charge of negligent homicide.

The trial was held as a result of the death of LouAnne Herron, 33, who bled to death after a late-term abortion at the A-Z Women's Center on April 17, 1998. Biskind ruptured her uterus with a sharp medical instrument during the abortion. The A-Z Women's Center is now closed, and Biskind's Arizona medical license has been revoked.

Biskind has 20 days to file an appeal.
